Where to buy & stores in your countries
Hi and sorry for my bad english- didn´t use it for a long time..
My question is, if I take a look at the market in Germany and Luxemburg
(where you may order a tablet in almost every store- but never see one there):
did you all have had the chance to test your tablets before you´ve ordered it?
Regardless all the reviews online- but I can NOT imagine if the tablet is able to be like a sheet of paper and usual pen- so the best way would be to see a tablet in a store and simply test it. Perhaps you´ve the opinion that Germany and Luxemburg (I live almost near the border of both) are countries with a good situation in computers and HiFi-Stuff. Unfortunately the level of the knowledge about tablets in any store of the merchants is the same like the one of a virging talking about ***
Their agruments: we can´t order these "Tablets" because no one wants them.
The fact that no one can buy them, because no one can see such a computer "in action" is not understanable for our german and luxemburgian Storestaff..
Was that the same in your countries or did you buy just because of the reviews online?
The last tablet/convertible I saw online was the new HP with the 12" Display (about 1300,- EUR) and I´ve got in love with that tablet- until...
..until I have seen one simple laptop in a store and decided that 12" is definitive to smal for my purposes.
So I am looking for some stores in Luxemburg or Germany near the border of Luxemburg with some tablets. Even the HP "preferred partners" are ony able to order that tablets if I would buy some..
However, my questions beside of the ones I´ve mentioned above:
Because of the definitive to small 12":
would you prefer the Asus RF1 or Toshiba Tectra M7?
Both of them seem to have all specs I need (larger Display, wireless LAN, good graphisc and Bluetooth- mostly writing and drawing at the tablet like on usual paper)- I can not find anyone which would be like this two (R1F and M7), do you?
Does it make a difference taking an active display or not? I can imagine that pushing the hand on the display may cause weired signs on the table or should I look for a tablet only with the ability to write with the pen only?
Last question: on every demonstation online you can see the people writing huge letters as they would be blind.. no one writes as he would do on a sheet of paper- is that not possible? Does anyone know if there´s a picture with small hand-written letters? I can not imagine the students writing approx. 100 letters per sheet
Can anyone write something and post a picture or pdf how it looks like, please?
Grets&Thanx for help!

Re: Where to buy & stores in your countries
Sebastian, please never underestimate a virgin and go with the Asus R1 over the M7. Alos, most online stores have a 7 day return / full refund policy. Meaning you can buy a tablet, try it and return it if you're not pleased, provided it is still pristine.

Re: Where to buy & stores in your countries
Sure they have- but: would you concider a 7 day used tables as "new"?
As far as I understand that, you may buy that tablet and not use it and install and try whatever you want.
So I may say: my comparison is right
However. I think I will order the R1F tomorrow- HPs hotline is the worst I´ve ever seen, Asus seems only to be interessted in selling and not support, Fujitsu-Siemens is not avaiable via email and phone..hey: I do NOT live in western Europe- it seems..... I´m in eastern Russia at an oil field... Simply unbelievable how much I expect from a phone-hotline (some infos where to buy) and how much they expect from the customer (buy without seeing the tablet) - therefore my question here if it was the same as you all have bought your tablets..
I hope I will see the picture or pdf Abyssal promissed..

Re: Where to buy & stores in your countries
Hope anyone can tell if I am alone in that two countries wanting to buy a tablet... I do NOT understand the companies: simply give some of the tablets to students and you can be sure other students will buy that and they will use that in their jobs later..
There´s no way to sell anything here without any support or either demonstartion in ANY shop.. whatfor they present their tablets in our language on their homepages??

Re: Where to buy & stores in your countries
Sebastian, l do not have pdf generation capability installed yet and don't know how to convert from One Note to any image format yet I can only post a sample once I figure this out or install some software. This will take a couple of days as I am extremely busy until then. Have patience. In the meanwhile maybe someone else can help you.
I understand your difficulty with buying without seeing. It was pretty much the same for me too. After much hunting I got to see a tablet but could find no stylus for it in store. The store simply doesn't have any on display because they get stolen! Even in the US, except maybe for some select cities, it in not possible to get your hands on a tablet, at least to use it as one. You are not alone.

Re: Where to buy & stores in your countries
I have the same problem - no store in the city I live in has a tablet - all could order though. So I went up to Sydney found an R1F in the first shop i walked in to (helps that it was a specialised ASUS shop), although admitedly it was locked up in a cabinent, but they were nice and took it out for me and set it up and everything.
Anyways, if you really want to have a look at one, go to your closest capital city. At the very least you should be able to find a specialised brand store, or the main headquarters of a chain that has tablets.

Re: Where to buy & stores in your countries
@ Abyssa: I will wait- perhaps there´ll be someone else who can help. I want simply to see how it looks when I print that document and the smallest readable letters..
@chinesefireball: I´ll go to Syndey
I have called all teh shops- they may order it but have no one in the stores. But they can order ... all they can...
Anyway- I ´ve found an online shop- will probably buy the R1F- seems to be the best one. But: would you update to vista or stay with the delivered XP on that tablet?

Re: Where to buy & stores in your countries
hi SebastianK,
i have the same your problem as you, also if i'm not living in Germany, but in Italy (but i could also buy my Tablet in Germany)
As you, i really would like to buy a tablet, but its really difficoult in Europ, especially because I'm looking for a tablet with big screen (14" like my favourite, the Gateway, or the Toshiba Satellite R25 - btw, exist there any other tablets with big screen?) but they even seem to not be sold in Europe
@AbyssalLoris: thx for your help, you could try to make a screenshot from your Onenote simply by opening the document and clicken the PRINT button on your keyboard
the picture is now in your clipboard and you can insert into MS Paint and saving it as a picture
PS: if you want, SebastianK, we can also chat in German
just write me a PN if you want toLast edited by Cell; 03-07-2007 at 04:03 PM.
