constant left click
hello guys!
please forgive me if i have posted the in the wrong section. please move this thread if i have posted in the wrong place - again, sorry if this is the case.
i have a problem with my Graphire4 Classic XL CTE-640.
i just bought the pen today, and it has been in this state since it's been out of the box. i searched for the problem on the net and this is how i found your forum. no answer though unless it just didn't come up in the search engine results.
the pen is stuck on 'left click' as a constant state. i.e. on the desktop, i hover the pen over the tablet and a marquee square starts to appear. this same effect is achieved using a mouse and holding the left mouse button in. this is without the actual pen nib touching the tablet. it's hovering over the tablet. touching the nib to the tablet has no effect. the nib/pen seems 'dead'
this is the state of the pen.
i updated the drivers to the lastest from the wacom site but, this did not fix the issue so i guess it can't be a software problem. or can it? i have no idea lol!
i pulled the nip out of the pen and even without the nib, the pen is stuck on this constant 'left click' and outputs the same results as mentioned above.
i opened the tablet config, clicked + ctrl over the 'about' button and opened the diagnostic menu. on hovering over the diagnostic menu, the pressure sensor reads 134~140. this is with about a 10~15 mm space between the pen nib and the tablet.
when i place the nib onto the table the pressure value stays the same 134~140. when i apply pressure to the nib onto the tablet, the value changes and peaks at 511. of course, the value changes with an increase in pressure on the nib touching the tablet.
i activated the 'click sound' in the config menu. the clicking sound sounds and the LCD changes from blue to green when the pen comes within approximately 10~15mm from the tablet.
this system is running windows XP pro sp2.
i want to start using my new tablet so any advice would be greatly appreciated. i feel gutted to tell you the truth >.<
cheers!

Re: constant left click
Well, if the advanced window (that shows pen location and pressure) shows there is pressure on the tip, then I would assume either the tip's pressure sensitive component is damaged (or simply 'stuck') or there was something like water damage on the circuit board located mid pen... where did you get the pen from, what condition was it claimed to be in, and what condition did it seem to arrive in?
I would try removing the nib and then tapping the pen hard on a solid surface (but not crazy hard, try for a modest hard tap to avoid damaging the pen or the surface); I had a similar problem on my Tm2 pen once and this fixed it for me. But this will only work if it is the one issue, if its something else then you probably will have to send it back for a full refund because it doesn't work...Current: HP 2730p Win 7 & Linux Mint | Toshiba M4 | Motion M1400 renice 120GB SSD | ITRONIX IX-325 | Motion F5 (U7500 update) | Fujitsu P1620 | T4220 w/SXGA+ 160GB Intel X18-M & 1TB HDD in bay | broken TC4400 [for experimentation] | i5 3570K mITX desktop w/GTX460 | ASUS N10j

Re: constant left click
hello agent9, thank you for taking the time to write a message.
where? i bought it from a local electrical store
condition? used
appearance? boxed, still in plastic wrapping. if it was second hand, then the original user kept the packaging in incredibly good condition. the tape seals, the plastic container and even the manual bag were all seemingly untouched.
i have three days to return the product and get my money back so that would not be a problem.
i would like to keep it though as it looks soo nice, you know.
ok, i will try your advice in 'tapping' the pen on a hard surface after removing the nib and post the results.
cheers again for the reply!

Re: constant left click
ok, i hit the side of the pen against the edge of the keyboard but nothing changed : (
so i hit it a bit harder, and it's still the same : (
all of the parameters for the pen are set as their default settings.
on the side of the pen, there are 2 additional buttons. the top button is set to 'double click'. surprisingly, when i hold this button in, the 'constant left click' stops. it doesn't seem to be 'double clicking' either. it seems to be a standard 'left mouse clicking/holding down' action.
in photoshop, i can draw with this upper button pressed. there is of course zero sensitivity using the pen like this so it's kind of redundant usage.
i should also add that all of the above that i have mentioned does not involve the actual pen nib touching the tablet surface but rather, hovering over the tablet at a distance of around 10~15mm.
it's not looking good i guess : (
gutted!

Re: constant left click
hello again...
i thought that i should give you guys an update on my issue...
i took the tablet back to the shop today, the guy tested it by installing the drivers from the packaged CD. the same symptoms occurred. he then updated the driver and of course, it was still the same.
then he uninstalled the driver, and instead of starting by installing the CD driver, packaged with the product, he bypassed this installer and only installed the latest version from the wacom site and ping pong, the pen / tablet works fine.
woooohooooo!!!!
thought that i would share that just in case anyone else experiences the same issue as me in the future.
take it easy guys!
