    Default Slate for Maths Graduate

    Hi there,

I'll keep this relatively short winded. I'm looking for a slate with two things in mind, before any other considerations (battery life, etc)

Replace paper. While I don't expect to entirely replace paper I would like to be able to at least perform all of my note taking using the machine, and be able to move some amount of my 'scribblings' to the machine. It is for this reason I do not want a convertible, as I require the machine to be thin for writing's sake.

Compute. I'll be clear here I'm looking for a workhorse, I want something that I can complete high powered computational tasks in good time, I want to be able to do various high powered tasks on the fly and overnight so that this can function as my primary working computer.

With this in mind I'm obviously looking at a windows 7 machine (unless there is some other OS I have overlooked?) and have been considering the ASUS EP121, which I believe would meet my needs, alternatively I've looked at the motion CL900, but I feel the ASUS is the better machine for my needs. I'm not settled on it yet so any advice on what other machines I should consider is appreciated, any any experience with the EP121 would also be appreciated.

    Thanks for any help.

Is price in any way a factor or are you willing to spend however much you want? Does size also matter to you?

Just trying to get a gist of what you're going for.

Price range would be (converting to USD) 1000-1500 dollars, maybe a little higher if its worth it. Size wise the larger screen size and the thinner (keeping in mind it still needs to be powerful) it is, the better.

    Cheers for the reply.

Alright, from the two tablets you've already researched, I would like to add on the Samsung Series 7 tablet. It's just about the same as the other two, so I couldn't really pick out the best one, because each has something different about them. The CL900 has an Intel Atom processor, which is slower than the other two, and of the three, the Asus EP121 has the biggest screen with the Samsung 7 behind it. You should look up the Samsung and see which one you like best.

So unless anyone else has any insight, it's pretty much up to you.

Thanks for the assistance heezy. I've decided to purchase the EP121 and it is currently charging. Looking forward to fiddling with it tomorrow and seeing how well it lives up to my dreams.
