Hi all, new guy needs some advice...
1. What is your budget?
Free - $850 (max around 900)
2. Do you prefer a Slate, Convertible or Ultra Mobile PC (UMPC)?
NO UMPC, I'd much prefer a convertabke, but a slate or regular notebook....i dunno, I'd prefer a convertable.
3. What size Tablet PC would you prefer?
I'd prefer a large tablet, but someone confused me about size in relation to price, so anything between 12 and 14 I suppose. For a regular laptop maybe 15-17.
4. Which country do you intent to purchase from?
Im in the US, but I don't mind ordering from another country,
5. Do you have any preferences to brand loyalty or dislikes?
Umm, no, no particular preference, this is my first so, whatever is thought of as durable and lasting.
6. How many hours battery life do you require?
Not sure whats a good battery life for a mobile pc, so, around 4+ hours whatever is average.
7. What do you intend to use the Tablet for?
Alot of graphic work (photoshop, illustrator) Will soon be doing computer sciences and such, so school work. Movies, music, most definitely, loud, lol.
8. Do you have an OS preference?
I know my way best around windows, so vista would be great. Dont mind Mac's, and I' getting into linux (ubuntu is on my pc, not used yet though)
9. What software and tasks do you intend to run?
Like I said, Photoshop, Illustrator, maybe MAYBE 3DSM, some office programs and the such. Video, audio editing, and getting started on some programming.
10. Do you intend playing Games. If so please list.
I game, but im not expecting to play bishock on my notebook, maybe the most as running maplestory or some other lil mmo, some emulators or such, but nothing major in my mind, ill save that for desktop....but playing my halo PC version on it wouldnt be too bad
.
Screen Specifics
1. Do you prefer standard or widescreen?
I dont have a huge preference, for a tablet, I suppose a widescreen would be best. But Either is great.
2. What resolution do you prefer?
Well, based on the descriptions I'd prefer WXGA (i do wear glasses) and screen area is uber important to me, if not SXGA wouldnt be too bad, but price is the major concern for all these things.
3. Do you require an Indoor only or Indoor/Outdoor screen option?
See explanation below for guidance.
4. Do you require a Passive or Active Digitizer?
See explanation below for guidance.
An active digitizer is a must, a ver very must, fingers arent so bad, but I cant draw with them as well.
5. Do you require Wacom or Finepoint Technology?
See explanation below for guidance.
Wacom, its what I have in my current non screen tablet (Wacom Graphire 4) so yea, Wacom.
Component Specifics
1. What size Hard Drive and Memory do you require?
A reletively large HD would be great anything above 120 or 160 would be great.
2. Do you require an Optical Drive?
Yes an optical drive is mandatory..never knew that was an optional component for laptops...
3. Do you require ability to add a second Battery or Hard Drive (Modular Bay technology)?
Yes that would be prefered, like buy with a small hd and surfing aroound for a cheap larger one.
Misc
1. Umm upgradable ram would be nice, besides that I think everthing else is covered up top. Also looks, wise, i dont have a color preference or weight preference much, but id like something pleasing to the eye...lol
2. Dunno, if theres a way to tell online, but durability is a huge concern for me, sand, water, drops from miles up high. Also I'd love something that wouldnt make me feel the need for an upgrade anytime soon (besides a hd size increase or ram.)
I relaise this may be a lil high for my price range, but i answered the questions best I could. Anything would be great to look at.Last edited by poken1151; 11-17-2007 at 04:17 PM. Reason: Change the battery life AGAIN, now i know what is average.

For that price, all you'll be able to get is the Gateway C-140X and even then you'll have to add some. You might be able to score a Lenovo X61 if they still have that 40% discount.

Re: Hi all, new guy needs some advice...
I was looking at the C-140X that you posted in another thread, I like what I skimmed from a review, and the user reviews seem nice, and thats not too bad for my price range I suppose...but i'd have to search for more info on it. But is there anything else out there I could look at?

Re: Hi all, new guy needs some advice...
The next tablet in price is the T2010 at $1599, which would be problematic at your budget.
14-17 hours is not a realistic battery life. A t2010 with an extended battery will only pull in 11 hours at minimal settings. The generally accepted battery life for a non-ULV processor is around 3-4 hours.Tablet: Lenovo Thinkpad X200 1.86 GHz 2x2GB RAM 160GB HDD Windows 7

Re: Hi all, new guy needs some advice...
Yeah...as far as I know, that's only the T2010 with the extended battery.
You really don't need more than four hours of running time. By your software options, I would not think you'll be using it while constantly on the move. The only reason you'd need so much battery as 10 hours is if you were a wildlife artist that would spend days in a forest drawing or something.Tablet: Lenovo Thinkpad X200 1.86 GHz 2x2GB RAM 160GB HDD Windows 7

Re: Hi all, new guy needs some advice...
Heck, with the Gateway C-140XL, you can play Bioshock!
(Although, maybe at medium or default settings.)
Since that particular configuration (C-140XL) comes standard with the ATi Mobility Radeon X2300 graphics card.
As for battery life, it should be able to match it at 4 hours (more or less), depending on screen brightness, radios, etc."Aequam memento rebus in arduis servare mentem"
