Good surfing UMPC with low system specs and price
Hello

1. What is your budget?
Maximum $1500, but i would prefer around $800
2. Do you prefer a Slate, Convertible or Ultra Mobile PC (UMPC)?
Ultra Mobile PC, looking something like this

3. What size Tablet PC would you prefer?
I would prefer under 10", but if it's 12" and has everything else i'm looking for, it's fine
4. Which country do you intent to purchase from?
Sweden, or import from the states or something. Prefer purchasing it from here though.
5. Do you have any preferences to brand loyalty or dislikes?
No
6. How many hours battery life do you require?
The more the better. This is quite important
7. What do you intend to use the Tablet for?
Surfing, mailing and note-taking. No games, no music, no movies
8. Do you have an OS preference?
Yes, windows XP
9. What software and tasks do you intend to run?
Web browsing software, notebooks, nothing advanced.
10. Do you intend playing Games. If so please list.
No
Screen Specifics
1. Do you prefer standard or widescreen?
Doesn't matter
2. What resolution do you prefer?
WXGA or SXGA
3. Do you require an Indoor only or Indoor/Outdoor screen option?
Well, i will be using it outdoors, so yes.
4. Do you require a Passive or Active Digitizer?
Doesn't matter
5. Do you require Wacom or Finepoint Technology?
Doesn't matter
1. What size Hard Drive and Memory do you require?
Not big at all. 5 gb would be enough. Memory, enough to surf and install a few small applications without overlagging.
2. Do you require an Optical Drive?
No
3. Do you require ability to add a second Battery or Hard Drive (Modular Bay technology)?
Hmm, no.
1. Other non specific items ~ please add other items you require not covered above?
Yes, it must feature at least one USB connection, cause i'll be using a 3G modem with it.
A PCMCIA slot would be great if there was, i would need one for a firewire cardbus adapter to plug in an external soundcard (not a demand though).
2. Additional requests ~ anything other you wish to take into consideration?
Not at this moment.

Consider the OQO Model e2.
It is ruggedised with magnesium alloy chasis. Comes with shock-mounted harddrive. Supports docking station. Similar in size (5") to the Sony UX (4.5"). It has a sliding touchscreen and supports digital pen. 3 to 6 hrs battery life. It has won numerous awards.
It's around your budget.

Yes, actually I just looked at it, and it seems pretty nice
Also saw the Sony Vaio, but that was a piece of crap, at least for me, with cameras and stuff. And the battery time only at 160min

Re: Good surfing UMPC with low system specs and price
Electing the 32 GB SSD option will drive the price out of your budget as the SSD is alot more costly.
The 120 GB HDD actually gives you more storage space for your money; and it is shock-mounted for added protection. Since it is advertised as having "drop detect technology"; it is considered very good.
You may email / call the distributors for availability and price of the 32 GB SSD option. My opinion is that the price will be too high and discouraging.Last edited by Benjamin Chin; 11-07-2007 at 01:04 PM.
