Default Finally got pressure sensitivity to work on M750!

Hi.

Finally got round to trying out the Wacom drivers to enable pressure sensitivity for Photoshop and found it far from an easy experience!

Well, after checking threads on here and some trial and error (and a couple of hours to experiment) got it to work and thought best to share my observations.

For me the 'approved' driver from Wacom ("PenTablet_505-7.exe") didn't work - it reported back that Tablet wasn't supported.

So tried the other driver recommend on here ("cons510-4_int.exe") to find that initially same error as 505-7. But after running "Pen Tablet Preference File Utility" and clearing all users preference files, the control applet then fired up! Unfortunately, although pen was detected and cursor could be moved around, it wouldn't actually 'ink' or 'click'!

Well, found that the driver that does work is actually labelled for the "Bamboo" tablet (and doesn't mentioned TabletPC):
http://www.wacom.eu/index2.asp?pid=2...product=MTE450
ftp://ftp.wacom-europe.com/pub/WINDO...s511-1_int.exe

Installing this and again first running the "Pen Tablet Preference File Using" resulted in a fully functioning pressure sensitive pen in Photoshop CS4. Hurrah!

Additional tips:

Remove any "Wacom", "Touch" or "Pen" devices from the Human Interface Devices section of Device Manager before installing the Wacom driver. Empty temp files in both the Windows ("C:\Windows\Temp") and User directories ("C:\Documents and Settings\<User Name>\Local Settings\Temp" for XP; "C:\Users\<User Name>\AppData\Local\Temp" for Vista). Make sure the "Program Files\Tablet" directory is emptied/removed.

Note: For the 'working run' I did this and also cleared all 'hidden devices' (see instruction below) then installed the 505-7 driver, found it didn't work, so then installed the 510-4 driver (without removing the 505-7 first!).

To remove 'hidden devices' from Device Manager (that is to thoroughly insure all mis-installs etc are removed) follow this:
http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx/kb/315539
- when Device Manager appears, select menu option to 'Show hidden devices' then expand the HID section and remove all ghosted devices, plus all Wacom, Touch, Pen etc. Reboot and attempt new driver install. (Select to find device driver later if prompted immediately on reboot before you get chance to install the new driver).

For completeness: This was tested on a European (UK) Toshiba M750-10K with Pen & Touch running Vista Business (32-bit) (note the driver download includes a 64-bit driver too, but not personally tested).

Your steps also worked for me. In an attempt to create a cleaner process, I skipped a few of the things that seemed unnecessary. All I did were these pieces:

1. Remove all device drivers (including ghosted and hidden) from the device manager, following your link:
http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx/kb/315539

2. Delete all temporary files and the tablet files, as you said:
"C:\Windows\Temp"
"C:\Users\<User Name>\AppData\Local\Temp"
"C:\Program Files\Tablet" or, in my case, "Program Files(x86)\Tablet"

3. Restart computer, making sure to tell it not to install missing drivers if prompted on startup (I was, after about three minutes or so).

4. Install this driver at your link:
ftp://ftp.wacom-europe.com/pub/WINDO...s511-1_int.exe

5. Restart.

After that, my Portege M750 (which runs 64-bit Windows Vista) finally has pressure sensitivity! Thank you so much!

When I install the wacom (bamboo drivers, 511-1) in my tx2510us, the pressure sensitivity works in CS4 but the touchscreen is automatically broken. I couldn;t fix it no matter what I tried. It seems that I have to choose between touchscreen on my laptop OR pressure on cs4. (And Anime Studio).

@ elerouxx if i recall correctly the toshiba uses wacom for touch and pen i don't think that's the case with the tx2500.

Well, i don't know internals.. but I think it's wacom, yes.
If I install normally (by the wacom drivers from hp.com, or via windows update) it installs 2 devices: Wacom USB Pen and Wacom USB Touch. (And their respectives 'HID-complaint device' entries). The driver of all these wacom devices are by wacom, version 3.0.0.0 (2009)

Then, as you know, some applications don't recognize the pen as pressure sensitive. So far, Anime Studio and Adobe CS4 programs. Also, they don't recognize the eraser, the button and other features.

When I install any of the latest Wacom universal drivers (pen tablet 511-1 or 510 etc), it installs the pen tablet control panel and a bunch of other drivers (Virtual Keyboard Driver, Virtual Keyboard Interface, Wacom HID Digitizer, wacom USB Pen, Wacom USB Touch, Wacom Virtual Hid Driver). Then the digitizer works perfectly in cs4 and all apps, and I can also program the pen button as middle button which I love to do.. but the touchscreen doesn't work anymore. The drivers version went 'down' to 1.0.4.0 (2008)

I've played enough with these entries. In the Device Manager, I manually installed the driver 3.0.0.0 (by choosing from the list) for WACOM USB TOUCH. After this, the touchscreen works but the pen tablet control panel is gone and the pressure problem is back!
i think this changes the driver file (.sys?) which is the same for all other wacom devices, so it's of no use to change this entry's driver individually.

Sorry that I posted this here and not under the HP forum... but i didn't found anything so specific there.

I solved the problem by manually changing the driver from the Wacom USB Touch to the generic "USB Input Device". Voilá. Don't ask me why but it's working perfectly now. Maybe you are right, the Touch isn't wacom. But it was wacom before... bah! nevermind. Thank you! this thread helped me a lot.
