Rep Power: 9 | Re: M700/M750 Chip Replacement I'm sure that you could upgrade to a T9500, but the fastest CPU IN THEORY that you could drop in would be the X9000. That being said the BIOS might not recognize it, and even if it did the M700's cooling system might not be able to handle the increased heat output.
I kicked around the idea of ordering an X9000 to install, but I just couldn't justify the price on a piece of hardware that might not work. Not only that, but since the X9000's strength is the ability to overclock on certain motherboards (which I HIGHLY doubt the M700 would support) and it only offers an incremental increase in speed (2.8 vs 2.5 ghz of my current system) I don't think that this upgrade will be in my future any time soon.

The X9000 cpu or the SSD or having more RAM (so less swapping on the part of the processor so more efficient processor?). |

Rep Power: 9 | Re: M700/M750 Chip Replacement The x9000 has a detrimental effect on cooling (it runs 10c warmer than the T9300). The SSD and RAM (4gb vs 6gb... I'm not sure what the temp was with 1gb as I only purchased it with 1gb but never ran it in that configuration) had no effect. The most significant impacts on my temps were replacement of the thermal compound, undervolting, and heatsink modification. Have you looked at the link in my signature for VGA/BGA heatsink thread?

Rep Power: 1 | Re: M700/M750 Chip Replacement Yes, I did look at that thread, and I intend to do those heat sink and thermal compound mods, while I am waiting for processor prices to drop. BTW, what do you mean by "undervolting" are you referring to running the CPU in lower voltage modes like PowerSaver or Balanced? |

Rep Power: 9 | Re: M700/M750 Chip Replacement No. The different power settings within Windows only limit the speed at which the processor will operate. Undervolting limits the amount of power being fed to the processor at a certain speed rather than just limiting the speed to reduce the temp. Ultimately this reduces the temp while not compromising performance. Link to other thread

Rep Power: 1 | Re: M700/M750 Chip Replacement Thanks TabbedOut. But I don't see any instructions on actually doing the undervolting. Perhaps I missed them: can you point me to this if possible? |

Rep Power: 9 | Re: M700/M750 Chip Replacement I didn't include much of a guide, but here is a good one: http://www.clunk.org.uk/forums/guide...processor.html that should get you on your way.

Rep Power: 0 | Re: M700/M750 Chip Replacement Hello all... Quick question on the cpu replacement in these M700s. Was there anything else that had to be updated with respect to firmware or something even lower when you changed the CPU out? I've heard about something like "DMI" having to be updated when various hardware is changed??? I have no idea what that is or if it is even relevant.
I'm starting out from a T7250 (2.0ghz) in my M700. Any particular issues or limitations to be aware of?
thanks very much for any guidance!

Rep Power: 9 | Re: M700/M750 Chip Replacement I had my computer up to date with the BIOS before I did it so I'm not sure if it would work with older versions. There is nothing you need to do as far as changing settings... just install the CPU and so long as it is compatible the computer will boot and run with it.
