So I get home yesterday and my battery light is flashing orange. It will no longer hold a charge.

I would get about 6 to 4 hours of battery use of a full battery granted the battery is old but going from 6 to 4 hours of charge to no charge at all seems off.

Any ideas on how to fix? I'd rather not have to buy a new battery.

    Thanks for your reply,

Are you saying that it is the battery? All of the sudden one day they go critically low? Or is it the charger? The computer works plugged in with no battery.

    Thanks,

I've had my x60t fail in this way twice before. Once it was because the battery failed and needed replacement, and the other was because Lenovo messed something up when repairing another issue. I had to send my laptop in and they apparently replaced the motherboard.

It could be the surge protector circuit (turn off the computer for a minute). The battery could need reconditioning but there are differencing opinions on this if it's Li-ion. The circuitry in the battery has gone bad due to heat (you didn't say if the battery was hot) or general failure (unusual). It could be the charger not giving enough amps. It could be the power sub-board has gone partly bad but on the x61t it's not individually replaceable- meaning the whole mb is replaced.

If you have another battery that behaves in the same manner - runs low and won't charge, it's something in the computer or charger. More likely the computer. Else it's the battery. If you know someone with a compatible charger, try it to see if the battery starts charging, then it's the charger.

What does the Thinkvantage Power software say the battery's condition is?
