Hey richman, thanks for all your answers. I just have 1 question: How does notetaking fell? 16:9 sounds a bit strange for writing, definitely far from how A4 format feels.
thanks but no thanks, that thing is huge (width, depth, height = 36 x 319 x 244 mm vs x220t => 305mm x 228.7mm x 27-31.3mm) and frankly... not the nicest design either I'd rather endure waiting for the x220t then.
The 16:9 12.5" screen used on the X220t has .5" less vertical screen than the standard 16:10 12.1" screen; so the X220t has considerably less vertical screen than the 13.3" 16:10 on the Fujitsu T901.... this translates to having much less space in portrait mode for the X220t (though I suspect that unless you are used to a 12.1" 16:10 or larger screen that you wouldn't much notice it as you have nothing to compare it to; but you would see the use of more screen real estate if you were using it in portrait mode) By those measurements the X220t is really not that far off from the Fujitsu T901, and very close to the T731 (especially if you are planning on using a secondary battery with the X220t which is overly bulky and oddly shaped... compared to the Fujitsu T731 & T901 that have a secondary battery system that uses the modular bay: either second battery, DVD drive, second 2.5" 9.5mm height hard drive, or a piece of plastic to save weight) And if you are planning on using a Tablet in a high brightness/ outdoor situation [as well as what would be called 'shaded' use], or need better color accuracy, then the AFFS+ panel found in the Fujitsu's and the HP 2760p will be far superior options for that use scenario (even with the direct-bonding on the Gorilla Glass screen it doesn't make up for IPS's inherent flaws compared to AFFS+, and as such it doesn't come close to AFFS+ usability in bright situations [the direct bonding is just including a bit of liquid between the outer layer and lcd, it has much more to do with parallax, than it does with refraction/ reflection; but it is seen on a lot of Tablet PC's -most of what you would read/ hear about direct-bonding and giving more color/ brightness/ clarity is just marketing hype, it really doesn't improve things in implementation all that much, even though on paper it should]
Although the 16:9 transition results in a ~.3" vertical reduction, the horizontal length increases by about ~.6" (and vice versa in portrait). I wouldn't exactly equate that with having "much less space". In fact, the 16:9 screen actually is a little bigger by area. Which ratio you prefer though is a matter of choice. I don't even really think you can compare the x220t with the 13.3" Fujitsu though. Its a different class altogether, the laptop size and weight differences confirm that.
yes going with [and liking], or not the 16:9 would be subjective; the loss of vertical screen space [when in laptop mode] or horizontal space [in portrait mode] is not, it is a loss none the less, and a detrimental one if you are using your tablet in portrait mode (which I don't see why you wouldn't) The X220t and Fujitsu T901 very very comparable: with the move to the new resolution/ screen size, the battery hump and bulge out the back, as well as the bulky slice battery, the X220t exceeds some of the T901's dimensions, while being on par with performance (unless you count the Nvidia gpu that is yet to be released, and is unknown as to where it will be available), weight is also about the same [T901 4.5lbs; X220t 3.9lbs at the lowest [claimed with the small battery, so it is more like 4.3lbs with 6 cell -richman, can you get a accurate read on weight?] With the X220t's widening of the screen by ~.6" you are ever closer to the width of the T901's screen; so they are quite similar except the T901 has considerably more [.9"] vertical screen area, and only slightly more [.38"] in horizontal space Size_Width x Height__Area 12.1": 10.26 x 6.41 70.28" 12.5": 10.90 x 6.12 66.72" 13.1": 11.28 x 7.05 79.50" Regardless, I was responding to yoyo_fen (who has been looking at the T901, and I was giving him a bit more in depth info as to why the T901 would suite him better
This may help with the inking question which is pretty much the same discussion about the concern with screen that follows it. The screen shots are Onenote in portrait and landscape thw way I use them. http://flic.kr/p/9HUmSm http://flic.kr/p/9HUmQW You should be able to click view all sizes in flickr somewhere (actions) to view the largest size. Unfortunately Flickr chops the image to 1024x577. The original size was 1370x772 because of the 2 pixel border I put on the full size screen clip. In portrait I use the battery hump on the right which angles the tablet slightly toward me and doesn't impede my writing. In landscape I use the battery hump at the top which angles the screen slightly toward me as well.
UPS site still shows that I'll get my unit this coming Wednesday. I have a digital kitchen scale that I can use to weigh the unit. So if you guys still want to know the exact weight, I can post it.
