I just wanted to share my experience with installing windows 7 on TC1100. The system specs are 1.2ghz processor and 2gig of ram and the windows build is 6801( pre beta). The install took about 45 minutes and i must say that im very impressed with the system resposivness. Previously, I has vista (lite) running on it and it ran slow despite using a trimmed version. With windows 7 it feels about the same speed wise as XP. Minyou this is just a prebeta and is bound to change but from what im seeing so far, it looks very promising. At bootup, the memory usage is at 480 MB with 35 processes running (before installing qmenu). Check out the screen shot.

Is the pre-beta available to us basic geeks?

Im afraid its not. However, Im told that you can sign up to be a beta tester with MS. Dont know what your chances would be of actualy getting accepted though.
An update. Q menu and button drivers work great. I had to install them in xp compatibility mode.

I have achieved similar results on my 2710p. I have kind of down played the fact i have it due to i got it from my friend who is a beta tester. I am not sure if he is *legally* allowed to let me use it.

It runs better then vista, and looks better to boot.

I think I would totally get win7 for my aging tc1100. I think it will breathe new life into this computer. Win7 is what vista should have been. Cant wait for it to get released.

I honestly couldn't believe how well it did when i got it. Made my 2710p feel like my 3.0ghz quad core desktop with 4gb of ram and a raptor hdd (which is hard considering it has a 4200rpm hdd in it).

You need to unlock aero and taskbar fetures in windows 7. THis is what it should look like.
