    ...Assuming that your SDcard is only being used for data storage, it will not be a problem. In fact, I did this on four of the tablets that I updated...

    And if you don't have enough space, the update will ask if there is a separate storage location. Replace the SD card at that time and the update will complete successfully.

    And that is why I've rolled back to 1703 twice now and disabled the update service.

    I suppose I should try using the current interface on my son's Surface Book 2, but it makes me angry enough that I have to resist the urge to throw the thing across the room.
