My LifeBokk 4220 came with a measely 1 gig of RAM, and I'm ready to pry it open and fill it with with 4 gigs from Crucial (yes, I know Vista won't recognize all 4 gigs, that's OK).

Crucial has two different 4 gig kits for the 4220. My question is, which one?

    4GB kit (2GBx2) - $103.99
    Part #: CT713448 • DDR2 PC2-5300 • CL=5 • Unbuffered • NON-ECC • DDR2-667 • 1.8V • 256Meg x 64 •

    ....or...

    4GB kit (2GBx2) - $109.99
    Part #: CT768400 • DDR2 PC2-6400 • CL=6 • Unbuffered • NON-ECC • DDR2-800 • 1.8V • 256Meg x 64 •

The choice seems to be DDR2-667 versus DDR2-800.

The price difference -- six dollars -- is obviously not really a factor. Is there any reason why I shouldn't get the DDR2-800 version ($109.99)?

    Thanks.

ddr2-800 will be faster so if the difference is $6 get it.

Also bear in mind you can find memory cheaper on sites like buy.com & newegg, just be mindful that it won't be guaranteed to work like the crucial memory is. Check w/ other Fujitsu users what they were able to use, and if they were able to use the memory purchased from newegg w/o problems.

As per the specs listed on the Fujitsu support website, the T4220 will only run memory at 667 Mhz. See below:

Key Specifications for Fujitsu Lifebook T4220

    Processor
    • Intel® Core™ 2 Duo Processor T71002 (1.8 GHz, 2 MB L2 cache, 800 MHz FSB)
    • Intel® Core™ 2 Duo Processor T7250 (2.0 GHz, 2 MB L2 cache, 800 MHz FSB)
    • Intel® Core™ 2 Duo Processor T73002 (2.0 GHz, 4 MB L2 cache, 800 MHz FSB)
    • Intel® Core™ 2 Duo Processor T7500 (2.2 GHz, 4 MB L2 cache, 800 MHz FSB)
    • Intel® Core™ 2 Duo Processor T7700 (2.4 GHz, 4 MB L2 cache, 800 MHz FSB)

    Chipset
    • Intel®965GM + ICH8M

    Memory
    • Two DIMM slots; max 4 GB, (actual 3.24 GB) 200-pin SO-DIMM, DDR2 667 MHz with dual channel support

So buying faster RAM is really of no benefit to you since the 800 MHz (PC2-6400) RAM will be clocked down to 667 MHz (PC2-5300).
Also, see this Wikipedia article on DDR2 RAM to see the differences: DDR2 SDRAM

I purchased my memory from Newegg and it runs great on my T2010. This is the RAM I got: G.SKILL 4GB

Any particular reason that you want crucial? Corsair is the top rated producer of RAM. I got 4gb (2, 2gb chips) of Corsair DDR2 667 for $82 (less shipping) from newegg.

Well, it all depends on when he got the computer. It appears Fujitsu has not updated their support page to reflect the new processor options. The CTO page says 800 MHz for all of the processors (Both T7000 and T8000 Series). But after doing some research, the mobile chipset (Crestline) that goes with the T8000 series processors (Penryn) are limited to 667 MHz. The chipset is the limiting factor here. If his tablet is brand new, he still is limited to a 667 MHz speed limit.

    Research:
    Intel Core 2 Duo
    Crestline Chipset

Tablet is about 2-3 months old. Control Panel > System says:
    Model: LifeBook Series (Build 7SARN1)
    Processor: Intel Core2 Duo CPU, T7500 @ 2.2 GHZ
    Does that provide any hints?

Yeah, clears up the Penryn thing. Download CPU-Z, and post a screenshot of the first tab. That will give us all the detail we could ever need.

    Buy the ram you want.
The 800Mhz will also work and will run at maybe only 667Mhz, but who cares. The price difference is so small that you can buy the faster ram, even if he gets clocked down in the end.
Both have the same speed at 667MHz.

I also use a Crucial in my T2010 and they work like a charm.

Sure? Both are equal. Both are one of the top rated producers. There is no noticeable difference between them. You prefer Corsair, I prefer Crucial.

Powowcow, what is the memory timing of that RAM in your T2010? I'm wondering if the timing is better than 4-4-4-12 at DDR2-533 since it's one of the few sets that have CAS 4 latency at DDR2-667.
