    Hi all

I have been a member of this forum since the days when we did not have the great package manager that I just tested this morning.
For this reason my eeeNote is a mess in the sense that I have many apps installed the old way via a the SD card.
I bought the device from Taiwan and the firmware is TW. So is the dictionary. Since then you guys have made a great progress and new apps and firmware seem to be available. I am considering re imaging my eeeNote and I would like to have the firmware that allows an E-E dictionary. I assume that all the apps available via the package manager are compatible with all the versions of firmware since I have not seen any complains in this direction.
So the question is what is the best firmware for me? I would really appreciate a link to it.

The other question that I had is this: have the launcher bugs been fixed? As far as I remember if you installed more than a specific number of apps the icons will show there but with no names under. You had to go back and forth through the launcher pages in order to have the names refreshed.

Many thanks to all of you for the work done so far.
    PF

PS: I should have mentioned from the beginning, I need an English interface

The latest firmware is Chinese and can be found here: CN_146_0326
You can select English for the user interface, but the dictionary is Dr Eye, which does not support English to English in this version.

The latest russian firmware can found here: RU_139_1011
If you select English for the user interface you can use the English-English dictionary (Stardict, I think).

    Hi guys

Thanks for the replies. Are there any functional differences between the Chinese and the Russian versions or it is just the language
I would prefer the Russian one because of the E-E dictionary.

Is there any other way to upgrade the software, other than this one:

    http://forum.tabletpcreview.com/asus-eee-line/47460-special-way-update-your-eeenote-1.html

I also checked freeenote.org and I could not find a software upgrade procedure.

This method speaks about there files, while the russian firmware package you pointed me to contains just one .rom file (eTablet.rom)

I haven't noticed any functional differences, apart from the different dictionary app. I'd recommend the Russian f/w if you want an English to English dictionary.

You can use pbarrette's wonderful Update Client ;) It's described in Post #16 of the "How to fix you Eee note if stuck at bootloader" thread. No need to set up a server, or anything.
