I saw that article as well. The video was enticing, but going from concept to actual products...
But I would be on that like herpes on Charlie Sheen.

Just personal thoughts about 10 inches surface :p
If SP5 and SB2 released 2017 I think it's reasonable MS released successor of S3 until autumn.
    Never say never!

Sorry, but I call bogus on this one: Surface Pro 4 is already available with 16gb option, and THERE IS NO WAY they can squeeze a discrete GPU into that design form factor. Just click bait.

I would agree that a discrete GPU is not happening. Even if they were able to fit it and the neccessary cooling, it just doesn't make sense.
Remember, the i7 SP4 (and the Vaio Z Canvas) already use pretty powerful IRIS PRO graphics. When you consider graphics performance of tablets, these two are in a different category. Kaby Lake's Iris Pro graphics in the SP5 will be significantly more powerful. So the advantage of discrete GPU will be even lower.

I think it would make sense for MS to offer their own Thunderbolt 3 eGPU dock. After all, the Surface line is supposed to show off what can be done.

I think dock station with something like Nvidia 960 laptop GPU inside will be great. Powerful and compact.
Another option is to put laptop GPU in the power brick.

@Bronsky I love your choice of articles -
    • "annus horribilis" - a very simple and straightforward description of the entire Surface Pro 4/SB debacle!
    • "But it seems that Microsoft things (sic) it is better to start the New Year with the latest that Intel can offer." Isn't that what they DID with SkyLake - how's that working for you MS?
    • "Delaying the Surface Pro 5 would mean that that it misses out on the Christmas sales which makes it one of the best times to sell a new toy." How positively MS!
