Installed a windows update and the pens come back.
Has any one else had success with this?
    Is this problem now fixed?

I wouldn't hold my breath but KB articles usually describe what's changed. What's the KB# of the update you're suspecting?

Once your pen quits, the Asus Self-Destruct has engaged.
You will need to use more and more elabarate work arounds
    to get the pen back.

Back up your files now in case you can not get it to work.
It took 2 weeks for me to be convinced it was going to fail,
    then it finally failed.

I installed these updates and the pen has come back to life and is now working.
    KB2965500
    KB2969817
    KB2966072
I hope the problem is solved

Hi All, this problem had given a lot of problem, but just now I have finally solved it!

To keep it short, this is what I did.
    1. Reinstall Windows twice in a row. (I don't know why did that twice)
    2. Windows update to 8.1.

That's it! The long lost cursor from digitizer is finally back!
I hope it will stay like this forever!

    Hope this help!

Send in to service center today, take 5 days to "repair" - replaced the digitizer. Looking forward to it. Remember to "disconnect" the account (settings -> account.) Will report back.

Hmmm... last two are red herrings based on https://support.microsoft.com/kb/kbnumber, but 2965500 interestingly isn't in Microsoft's database.

I haven't updated my AVN8 since I got this last month, afraid that the pen won't work as what I read from some of the owners. Im outside the US, got this through Amazon so this would be a hassle for me if this will happen.. . But after using this device for a week, the pen issue started.. i did what everyone is doing to resolve this issue, it was just temporary because every hour the pen stopped working..

what I did when the pen worked again, I went to Device Manager>IC2 HID Device>Properties>Power Management , I unchecked Allow the computer to turn off this device to power saver.. so far my pen is still work for more than a week..

chris2pher06 - What is the first two letters/numbers on your device's serial number?

    E1, E2, E3 or E4?

And what does it say the build date is?

    01-2014, 02-2014 or later?

    Thanks.

    Given that:

    1) some digitizers are failing after a whole 3 months of ownership.

    2) some units coming back from repair have failed again.

It may take a long time -- if ever -- for Asus to fix the issue. This may become a saga similar to that lived by the Samsung S7S owners a few years back. :(

What's the oldest unit without digitizer problems here?

I want to buy the AVTN8, but I won't wait till Xmas to see this flaw addressed. I'll end up buying the Lenovo TPT2 by the Autumn, which will make a powerful pair with my forthcoming Galaxy Note 3.
