    @surfaceproartist

    In another thread you said
    Can you remind me what are the advantages of this new pen?

    Cheers!

    Wow that price-drop is crazy! Any way to buy this outside of the US?

    @lblb the VAIO pen has a very hard nib and makes an annoying tap against the glass each time I start a stroke. The softer nibs on the Surface Pen are much quieter. Also, they add friction which reduces the sensation of skating on glass as you sketch.

    So big question would be if I should get a reduced price Z Canvas or a Thinkpad Yoga 14 (2nd gen, 460 equiv) ...
    I have a SP3, but am tired of how difficult it is to use the SP3 on my lap. The Canvas would be even worse in terms of lapability, but that extra horsepower!

    <<...What's the battery life you all are getting now doing light day-to-day computing?..>>

    ...I can get ~6 hours of on-and-off use without much trouble. More if I pay attention to my usage.

    However, as a practical matter, I'm never far from an AC outlet and I have several external batteries that I can use if necessary. So battery life / operating time isn't much of a pressing matter to me.

    <<...the VAIO pen has a very hard nib...>>

    ...Just a quick comment. The VAIO pen comes with two nibs; a black hard plastic nib, and a "dark gray" ever-so-slightly softer plastic nib. Both nibs are a bit noisy, as surfaceproartist says. I use a Photodon 6HS screen protector, and I think it mutes the contact noise just a little. But I can see where some would still be unhappy with the noise...

    The VAIO is not lappable because the keyboard detaches and doesn't offer a slot for the display.

    Thanks for the info on the pens (and screen protector). Your feedback is much appreciated.
