I will need to upgrade my tablet, hopefully by July of next year. My R15 is a few years old now and running strong, but I may need to at the very least upgrade in a few months. It took me 6 months to buy my last tablet so I am starting early.

    General Questions.

    1. What is your budget?
    Under $2000. Preferably $1600

    2. Do you prefer a Slate, Convertible or Ultra Mobile PC (UMPC)?
Convertable or slate. I can just use my slate for note taking and leave my old one for typing papers.

    3. What size Tablet PC would you prefer?
Large ~ 14". The acer 13.3 is fine as well. As long as it's above the 12.1 area.

    4. Which country do you intent to purchase from?
    U.S.A

    5. Do you have any preferences to brand loyalty or dislikes?
Do you have to ask? (Toshiba or some Japanese company)

    6. How many hours battery life do you require?
I'm used to 3+ but 4 would be nice

    7. What do you intend to use the Tablet for?
    Note taking

    8. Do you have an OS preference?
Windows. If I can, I'll downgrade

    9. What software and tasks do you intend to run?
OneNote, Office, Firefox, IE, miscellaneous school software. Internet video communication via webcam across countries.

    10. Do you intend playing Games. If so please list.
    Nope.

    Screen Specifics

    1. Do you prefer standard or widescreen?
Standard. 14.1 Standard is like a sheet of paper. It's great

    2. What resolution do you prefer?
I'm working with a 1024x768 right now and it's fine. Of course, fitting more on the screen would be nice.

    3. Do you require an Indoor only or Indoor/Outdoor screen option?
    Not really.

    4. Do you require a Passive or Active Digitizer?
    Active

    5. Do you require Wacom or Finepoint Technology?
    Wacom.

    1. What size Hard Drive and Memory do you require?
    120gb or more :). I have a 500GB external.

    2. Do you require an Optical Drive?
    Yes.

    3. Do you require ability to add a second Battery or Hard Drive (Modular Bay technology)?
Would be nice but I've lived without it.

    Misc
    1. Other non specific items ~ please add other items you require not covered above?

    2. Additional requests ~ anything other you wish to take into consideration?
Really I just need a new computer for Internet video chatting with family overseas. I'm due for a tablet upgrade anyway

Gateway C140. It's the only 14" on the market, has plenty of power, will get you 4 hours of battery life with the integrated graphics and extra battery, has integrated optical, active digitizer and is great for notes. Not to mention despite its size is near to the weight of the 13" Asus R1. In the U.S., I'd take the Gateway over the Asus. Check out the mcp site to customize it to your will, or ebay for better deals on refurbished C140's which you can get as low as less than a grand...

Check out the Gateway Professional line located at MPC:
    http://pro.mpccorp.com

You can customize them more than Gateway's website..

Look at the E295 or the S7235..
