I use a linksys AE1000 usb adapter with a Linksys e3000 dual band router. I use it when I am outside, and the router is inside. I can get about 144 or so on 2.4 ghz, and about 260ish on 5 ghz. The 5ghz really is dependent on how close and what is between your adapter and the router. Much less range, but much stronger than the 2.4 if your within 25-30 feet or so (that is how far the lappy-adapter is from the router/wall between). I believe you need 3 wires to take advantage of the dual band. But that is where the usb adapter comes in for me. None of my lappys has 5ghz built in, but all get 260ish with the adapter.

Thank you guys soo much for this forum and thank you for this walkthrough on replacing the WLAN + Bluetooth adapter. I ordered mine yesterday from a vendor through Amazon and hope to have it sometime next week.

Question regarding the Asus control dock. Can you still enable and disable WLAN and Bluetooth through the dock or can this be done easily in the Proset drivers? When the wife is using the slate she really like the quick access to this on/off for both devices. If not, is there another easy place to access this without digging through menues or the device mananger?

I just installed it as well.

One thing broke though, the asus deck no longer controls the bluetooth radio. Its always on now unless you disable it from the device manager.

Anybody else having this issue or another quick method of disabling the radio?

    @ technoarch:

someone here posted power usage estimates and mentioned that Bluetooth does not eat any appreciable power at all so no need to disable it. Otherwise, you can disable it through control panel or device manager.
