I was looking at some Toshiba models from Toshiba Direct. On the customisation page they show this: 256MB PC4200 DDR2 533MHz SDRAM (256MBx1) 512MB PC4200 DDR2 533MHz SDRAM (256MBx2) [add $50.00] 512MB PC4200 DDR2 533MHz SDRAM (512MBx1) [add $100.00] 1024MB PC4200 DDR2 533MHz SDRAM (512MBx2) [add $280.00] 1024MB PC4200 DDR2 533MHz SDRAM (1024MBx1) [add $575.00] On the next page, accessories: 15% Instant Rebate Kingston 256MB DDR2 SODIMM [$49.30] 15% Instant Rebate Kingston 512MB DDR2 SODIMM [$97.75] 15% Instant Rebate Kingston 1GB DDR2 SODIMM [$177.65] What's the difference? Why would I want to pay $575 for a 1024MBx1 upgrade when I can get the Kingston 1Gb for $177? The machine clearly has two slots and I can presumably just install or have installed the 1GB Kingston alongside the 256Mb one that comes in the machine. I have looked at the Satellite M60 and the Tecra M4, they both have this huge price disparity.
