I have the dock and thats where it spends most of its day. To date I have experienced no lifting but i do hear creaks if I grab the device firmly... Keeping a very close eye as I've only had it for 2 weeks.

KBB -- completely new batch, or possible typo?

    <<...KBB...>>

Slate: What country are you reporting from...? Perhaps this is a national code (the "K")...

    Maybe
    CB* means manufactured in China
    KB* means manufactured in Korea

    Just guessing though,

Bought from Microsoft Store online. Seems to be working fine atm.

My first slate (from the online MS store): HLVJ93CBA014xxL
    - returned for increasing tendency of glass to pop out of bezel. It wasn't horrendous, but returning seemed like the wise course of action. Case "creaks" when shifting it between hands.

My second slate (from Santa Clara MS store): HLVJ93CBB018xxV
    - slight 1mm gap between bezel and glass in bottom left corner, but otherwise very solid screen/bezel connection and no "creak" like mentioned above.

Though the second feels more solid, I weighed them on a kitchen scale and they were exactly the same weight.

NOTE: I also discovered this new model had a BIOS option that the previous one didn't (SATA GEN3 Mode, I believe), and lo and behold, it had a more recent BIOS version, so this is definitely a newer run.

Jerelyn, thanks for that confirmation! So It looks like we might have a new batch, but they dont seem to have solved the problem of the screen just yet, which is a bit worrying.

so I think HLVJ93CBB018xxV can't be considered as "good" since Jerelyn said there is 1mm gap.
