i used to dj quite a bit in the past, and use laptops. (well ok, cd's and vinyl before that).

i dont do that anymore, but i still play around with music,
and use some of my tablets for a lot of audio editing.

i am doing vinyl restoration, and also a lot of remix work on them.

i saw microsoft was considering a 'remix' cover for the surface:

    Surface #RemixProject

unfortunately it's not for sale, you have to win them in a
    competition.

so, ebay to the rescue, since its such a niche product, people
are selling them bundled with surface (no thanks), and alone.

so i ended up getting one, and it also works with surface pro,
surface pro 2, and surface 2.. so i got a used surface pro also.

if there's interest. i'll post my impressions of it. regardless, if
they decide to make it public or not. it looks like a pretty interesting
    device to test out.

i have not thought about buying or getting another tablet since
my trusty fujitsu tablet has been plenty for me. it will take awhile
to get used to windows 8, and all the other changes.

do you do anything music related? and if so, what aspect?

i'll try to answer your questions.

there's a lot of information on the microsoft site, and a couple of videos on
    youtube (besides unboxing ones).

    some pictures of it:

very nice music, i like electronic and techno stuff. bands like underworld, and dj's like sasha and darren emerson etc.

it is velocity sensitive, but i don't know anything about midi, and don't think it supports it.
maybe you have to get some kind of external adapter.

i mess around with remixing in acid, mixmeister, and cut and paste in sound forge.

will be getting everything late next week.

got the remix cover today. very well made hardware.

    getting the surface pro tomorrow.

one thing, it looks like its mandatory to upgrade to windows 8.1,
so not looking forward to that.

will be posting updates, samples, and thoughts here:

    got my surface pro today,
and have been playing around all evening with it.

first had to charge the battery for a few hours. then another hour of upgrading everything to windows 8.1

then i finally got the music app, downloaded some other software and got things running.

there's a pretty steep learning curve. i downloaded several music packs with samples, but there
are no project files. you have to make your own.

it feels like a basic version of acid.

    but with hardware support.

i can see the potential, but it's going to take time,
    and a lot of practice.

I'm no DJ, but I would really like to see this being used. Would you be willing to post a video of you using it once you get the hang of it? It looks super intriguing!

    sure.

well, it's going to take awhile. and it's very time consuming, but i'll get around to it.
maybe a short preview later this week or so.

please check out what some other people have done on youtube if you want to
    get an idea.
