wait how is there demo SP8s already out now? I wonder what demo 7+ cost.

Edit: just looked it up the regular 7 with 256gb/16gb ram is about the same price for just the tablet it self. Weird.

so what exactly is a "demo" unit?
how can they sell them for half the price of the microsoft store?

These demo units are evaluation units meant for IT teams and corporates to trial or "demo" before committing to a widespread deployment. It is a form of loss-leader to hook the powers that be into approving a high-dollar contract. They are warrantied just the same, are just as qualifiable for Microsoft Complete extended coverage (the Business version of Complete is a far better deal, but I digress), and are mechanically and electronically identical.

If only the 8 used the same keyboard as previous models would save me from buying a new keyboard.

So how do they prevent common folk from buying these? Asking for a friend.

Great find - but even at that price, when I get the keyboard and pen, and get a replacement 1tb SSD, I'm running up pretty close to the x360-14 I already own.

Nope, brand new, never used. Same as the retail and commercial units.

Hoping us common folk don’t get wise to it. Often too, they will instruct each distributor to require purchasing a minimum quantity to prevent consumers from buying them.
