    Seems to be very likely that USB-C Docks with DP 1.4 will support all I need. The catch is that they're barely available as for now. And I'd definitely prefer the Surface Dock because of its magnetic connector...

    This is fantastic news! I totally forgot about Ice Lake supporting DP 1.4 and USB 3.2. That means that Thunderbolt 3 is really not a must for most people who just need 4K 60Hz monitor and USB 3.0 connections simultaneously. The DP 1.4 specifically with its higher bandwidth solves this problem by leaving enough bandwidth left for USB 3.0. The only missing feature now is eGPU support but that is no showstopper except for advanced workstation users.

    This image of the Pro 7 internal arrangement was captured from a Microsoft "engineering walk around" video; it looks like the heat sink arrangement over the CPU has been edited out so that the CPU can be shown...?
