    I just gave up.
Had TWO 7+ i5 16GB fail on me without any reason.
Support is ****. Not acceptable at this price point.

Bought a Thinkpad x12 which is just terrific (and user serviceable)
Let me know if anyone wants to buy a brand new surface keyboard and pen.

    Update:

New Surface arrived, added the 1Tb and it started a system update immediately after the initial logo. Just one of those things.

New orders now show expected availability of September 13th at the earliest. Meanwhile, my parents' preexisting orders have been now delayed yet again into August, who had ordered all the way back in April. o_O That's right... four (4) long months. I can understand some delays before given the current world situation, but this is now laughably bad even compared to Microsoft's competitors. Microsoft cannot manufacture competently. With supply chain (mis)management of such epic proportions, Apple's iPad Pro will win by mere default. Any comment on this, @desertlap? Even the hotly demanded 2021 iPad Pro isn't experiencing this level of delays.

Real hutzpah - "Get it as soon as September 13"

Gee - might as well wait to see what October brings - wait a minute - that would mean 2022 delivery

WOW - JUST HAD A GREAT IDEA:

    Dear Panos:

With Apple abandoning x86 for all its computers, why don't you just "buy" the x86 version of Big Sur, slap it on all your Surface Pro models, and make some REAL MONEY from your users and all the folks desperate for a touch screen Mac. No need to pay me for the brilliant idea.

Oh, wait a minute, sorry folks, just woke from my nap/daydream - no way Timmy wants to let MS be competitive again...go back to sleep Strauss

According to the shared link, this is a common problem (at least for SP7). You may find a lot of messages in the thread I cited reporting this problem with the battery (when the device is very hot and does not charge properly while being in use). This is not a "miracle" and not a "user fault", this is indeed some hardware problem probably related to passive cooling of the i5 version (as most of the reports including mine deal with the i5, and charging does not occur properly while using the device). Similar threads (including mine) also exist on reddit.

The fact that I dealt with 4 (!!) devices having the same issue also suggests that this may be a mass problem with supplies.

I must be lucky as mine is perfectly okay. The guy who sits across from me... his is okay as well. The MD's 7+ is also okay. The two guys in the other office... they're okay as well. That's lot of cool, working machines.

Phew. Managed to dodge a bullet there!

Same here... We have 37 SP7+ i5 16Gb LTE devices in production here and all are flawless.. Only issue here was a sharrered glass panel and a bruised ego of the user who dropped it on the tiles in the office
