I'm having trouble finding a direct comparison between an i7 SP4 (Iris) and a Surface Book i5 with dGPU. I'm interested to know how the SP4 i7 compares in graphics capability to the SB with a dGPU. Anyone seen tests or comparisons?

The only problem is that the sp4 with i7 has not shipped yet unless reviewers get them first. I have the i5 but have i7 on order and it was pushed back from nov 23 to dec 4

Will have more info in couple of weeks I supposed when reviewer take the i7 version.
In my opinion theoretically based on my experience it won't be more than 15-20% better in GPU the custom Nvidia on Book compared to 540 Intel HD of i7.

That custom Nvidia on Book is somehow identical to 940 witch is entry level GPU in terns of power.

If it was Nvidia 960 it would make more sense of getting Book over i7 SP4.

    Take a look over here

I don't miss anything about the i5/8/256 SP3 so far. Especially not the heat and fan noise.

You might want to look at the Lenovo Mix as well.

Hi guys, I'd like to have your opinion about the surface i intend to buy.
I'm looking to the i5/8gb/256gb ssd model.
I will use the surface for basic stuff (note taking, office, web browsing...etc); i will use some programs such as mathematica and other scientific stuff, i need also to run one VM with linux for soft programming and plotting. These are my needs. do you think the i5 is good enough? Last i'm wondering if i'll be albe to play dota 2 ( reducing resolution and other settings). Anyway this last task is not important at all, it's just curiosity. Thanks for your replies.

Actually, whether or not you wanted to run Dota 2 at decent frames would be determinative between the I5 and the I7. The I7-6650U has Iris graphics. The better graphics, not the increased power from the CPU, will probably let you run Dota 2 at native resolution. At least at 1080p. If you don't want game on the SP4, the I5 will do everything you need done without breaking a sweat.

Thx for your reply, I'll go with the i5 since i don't need to play games and the price difference here in Italy is too high between the i5 and the i7 model.

For those with an SP4 and connected standby, have any of you seen your device actually go into DRIP ? My sleep study reports never show any time for it. Thanks.
