decided to reload my ancient Surface Pro 1 (that I've given to my sister...(ecovery cleaning also in process for the SGB12) only to go to Microsoft's site and discover the only image there for this device is Windows 8.1

    REALLY Microsoft???

Are you annoyed with the extra work involved? Because it's still possible to upgrade to Win10 for free.

I would be. It's a Microsoft device. You should be able to install W10 direct.

    Why would you be annoyed?
The recovery image is for recovering the original installation.

If you want W10, your choice.

That's what it originally came with.
What else should it come with.

I would be wary of installing Windows 10 on it anyways.

It was already upgraded and running the latest version of windows 10 but when I tried a reset it failed ..and yes I am annoyed at the extra work.

Why could there not be images for windows 10 for download for the sp1..

At this point I will just download the ISO instead.
