The difference is, the surface book already exists as a retail product. I wonder how long ago the episode was filmed. Did Microsoft think it would be product placement to drum up excitement for a product that would have been released by the time the episode aired? Or are they dumping prototypes that will never see the light of retail day? Or is it a tease for a spring release?

@sonichedgehog360 makes an interesting point. Given that everything in the world has been running slow over the last year, I think it could have been an attempt at product placement, a decision made before the Neo got sidelined...

    Just my guess, though...

It could be a matter of timing and budget. The latest Bond movie is already having to do reshoots because its product placements are now outdated. On the other hand, TV deals with a far tighter production timeline, where they have to get generally 6 hours+ of post-production content ready for broadcast cut from an even greater number of hours of raw footage. Plus, they often have far less production budget leeway to finance another reshoot if a placed product is cancelled after the original shooting. So they have may just opted to keep the Neo screen time as-is because it prominently shows the Microsoft logo and accomplishes the goal of bringing greater general awareness to the brand even if the Neo itself may have been nixed.

Even if it's true, it better be a totally different device and not the same outdated design.

I'm starting to feel that sooner or later Apple will be the only OEM that matters with their new chips that leaves the most powerful devices in the dust.

Every time I watch the reveals of Surface Neo and Surface Duo I am brought to tears - the real future of Windows evaporated with that failure - reminded of Otter's advice to Flounder (after trashing his brother's car) You f'd up, you trusted us!

    <<...Looks like Windows 10X is officially dead...>>

An interesting business "reversal;" Windows makes a comeback and the priority shifts back to improving its UX. Other than thinking that changing icons is some sort of improvement, this might be the right decision for them.

(But the Neo still deserves its shot in the market place...)
