The tech specs section doesn't mention display brightness. I hope it follows other Surface devices by being around 500 nits.

Unrelated, note that this does NOT qualify for the usual 10% educational discount. Weirdly, the currently listed edu discount is around 5%. Why the change?

On a positive note, especially for @dstrauss, free returns! :D

Seeing some articles mention that the USB c port can be used for charging ...
That would address my main problem, though I still would like to see a smaller bezel and more ports instead the stupid surface connect thing.

    • the X360 went back to HP months ago
    • SB2 is still in limbo while I field test the GB12 in my signature
    • SGo awaiting
      • outcome of SB2 vs GB12 battle
      • when (if) LTE/256gb drops
      • what does Samsung do with GB12 successor (WOA or the real thing)
      • rumor mill
And, of course, what rationalization can I invent for another device...

"dstrauss it or bust" - really???????

One of the video previews from the links goes into specifically how it can indeed be charged via USB-C.

Do you have a link to that video?

That would remove one of my primary problems with the Surface Go:

Absolute requirements (in order of importance):
    - faster than an Atom x7 - check
    - 4GB or better 8GB RAM - check
    - 10-11 inch screen - check
    - USB charging (micro or USB-C … don't care either way, but it better work off a phone 1A and 2A charger in a pinch) - check?
    - MicroSD reader - check
    - 64GB or more storage that is faster than eMMC - check in the 128GB version
    - hinge - check (the primary reason why I returned the Galaxy Book; with the keyboard cover that device was just to big and bulky - F that folding cover crap)
    - thin keyboard cover - check
    - USB A port - miss
    - 3.5mm audio - check
    - price - miss; for that price the keyboard cover should be included in my opinion
    - GOOD N-Trig pen - check (unlike most people I now have 2 N-Trig pens and don't mind staying in that ecosystem)

Ideal requirements (again in order of importance):
    - additional ports (ideally 2 USB-C, 2 USB-A and 1 HDMI or at least micro/mini HDMI) - miss
    - thin bezel - miss
    - fingerprint reader - miss
    - no proprietary port crap that just takes up space - miss

It's a good package. For me the main questions still to be answered are battery life, benchmarks, and screen brightness.

Personally I'd also have liked one USB-A port (just too many memory sticks floating around the house..), and I'd have liked smaller bezels / slightly larger screen, and probably a bit more CPU oomph.

Guys, I'm so happy the fujitsu q584 finally came out

    It even has a stylus

I know it will be the 10 inch tablet to end all tablets and take us to the promised land

Until 12 inch tablets become as light

My mouse hovered over the Buy button but it's a difficult proposition especially seeing as I'm back to using a Core M SP4. What do I really gain? Smaller, lighter, all true, but will I really enjoy that due to the smaller screen and possibly lower battery life and performance? In the end I decided to wait for the reviews. It IS a lot of cash for what it is. Am I finally being sensible? Yep.

    WANT. NO. WANT. STOP IT!

The main question is whether the typing experience is good or not. Will the current SP4/SP5 keyboards fit?

As and when my Surface 3 breaks down (hopefully not), I will take a look at this Surface Go. Looks like this new Surface is right up my alley. Until then, the Surface 3 is still good. No hurry for me.
