Microsoft has been building its own silicon since the 2010s - starting with FPGA for AI/ML and Microsoft created the reference for Azure Sphere SoCs. The have been working on their own ARM SoCs for High-density Datacenters for years.... when that was leaked that lead to the speculation that those would be used in up-coming Surface Products.

Interesting, that makes sense and gives me hope as their data centers are state of the art.

This is exactly where this all breaks down for me. Apple admitted they've been working on laptop/desktop processor design since the iPhone 6, they already had been heavily involved in chip design before that, and for MS to come away with even 2/3 the performance in two generations would be a Manhattan Project on Microsoft's part. I don't think they could even accomplish this if they brought Intel in house to develop a customized high performance mobile Core design, much less ARM with Qualcomm which has far more allegiance to the Android phone market than a fledgling desktop market...

PS - I just saw Jeff's post, and that is admirable, but it is not the same objective as desktop class processing in my mind (should have said "in my pea brain").

Aren't they also in a position where they could actually say "...and we will tweak the next iteration of Windows so it will run very choppy on Intel's CPUs"?

And that's the problem with MS. Why in the world wouldn't they take advantage of all the things they've learned from the first Duo version to move that form factor forward.

Why? O why don't I just love Apple's offerings, so I can just have the place of mind that Apple fans enjoy?

I ordered one in black. I'll let you know what I think of it.

I'm using the White one with my Pro X - I like it, takes up less space than the other ones I've tried
