If it's like every other Android device, unlock developer mode ( I think you need to go into settings and find the about device/software/software version) and tap seven times.
In developer mode you can turn off animations.

Thanks for all of your input. Do you all use adaptive brightness? It seems like the Surface Duo's ability to properly learn adaptive brightness is poor compared to the Galaxy S10 I came from. I never had any issues with adaptive brightness on the S10. But with the Surface Duo, the screen brightness just doesn't seem to learn what I tell it I want in various lighting scenarios. I'll frequently turn the brightness all the way to zero when in a dark room. But inevitably the next day I'll be in a dark room and the Surface Duo screen(s) is super bright. I just turned adaptive brightness off and I'm going to test controlling brightness on my own. Maybe this will help with battery life.

Also, I'm going to have to get into a better habit of just using one screen when I don't need both. At this point I'm in the habit of always using both even when I only have one app up on one screen. It just seems like book mode is the natural posture for me with this device.

I went into developer mode the other day, but couldn't determine what I should disable to do exactly what battery saver does. I went in today and disabled the following:

    Windows animation scale
    Transition animation scale
    Animator during scale

Hopefully this will help with battery life going forward. I don't really notice much of a difference in use of the phone with these things disabled.

    Not exactly battery but performance.

Some more renders for those still interested in the SD2...they are right that if you have the Surface pen attached it's not more intrusive than the camera bump...

From experience, I wouldn't try to fold it open with the slim pen "pinched" between the glass; not pocketable like that.

little more proof that these renders might be legit. Aside from the camera bump, they also moved the SIM card and USBC port. The SIM card slot with its current location makes it hard to access with the bumper on it, presumably the new location will make that less an issue?

The Surface Book speculation is equally interesting...
