Thanks for that, and far more detailed than I was expecting, bonus !:D

So where I'm heading with this is that all of the flagship phones on the market use DSP for both speaker and microphone on voice calls and FaceTime for IOS and Google Duo or Meet on the Android side.

Specifically both DSPs act to increase voice clarity at the expense of linear response which means that from a sonic standpoint it's not a flat frequency response like in high grade audio equipment.

My theory is that in the environments I normally work in, noisy offices. outdoors, manufacturing floors, the DSP on the Duo is not as sophisticated as with the Samsung phones or iPhones.

We discovered the extent of the levels that both Samsung and Apple actively modify the audio inadvertently last week as part of other work we are doing with one of our customers. Long story short, I'm going to run the same tests on the Duo and if there is interest I'll post back here.

PS: If that's the case MS could do at least some software mitigation if they perceive it as a real issue

For what it's worth, I've seen similar problems with my Pixel 4XL where I've been told I sound like garbage when I try to use the speakerphone in a noisier environment.

As to the question of rounded inner-edge screens, Microsoft actually has this patented:

Maybe Duo 2? Or better still - NEO!

Nice. Bonus points for eye-tracking, and dynamically adjusting the near-hinge pixels to keep the image undistorted. #joespatent

AND - that potentially solves the notification issue just like the original Note Edge

Interesting, we have a Pixel 4 in our test lab, I'll add it to the mix while I'm at it.
    Thanks!

Removing and reusing is what they did when @dstrauss was the leading man on the dating scene. But if it is environmentally friendly I'm all for it, coming from the nation that gave birth to Greta Thunberg.
