I don't think they said how much the whole package weighs. Also it looked like there were a lot of batteries (in addition to the GPU) within the base, so it probably does add a lot of weight. Also, it will be interesting to hear how good the battery life is on the slate by itself.

The hinge design in addition to the base battery placement (palm rest opposite the hinge) all look to be the right things to do in terms of balance for a detachable device. If any detachable is going to have good balance so it doesn't tend to topple backwards, this is going to be the device that does it.

Thanks! Also, (not that I don't trust you) where did you get that from?

ikr. I loved the concept of the Helix, the price point was on the ridiculous side though, and then there were issues with heating, hinge mechanism was kind of clunky. The 2nd iteration seemed underpowered...but THIS. THIS is what I've always wanted.

In Jamaica we'd say that right about now i'm a pleased puss :)

$1499 without the discreet GPU..minimum version with it is $1899. Close to what the guesses were a few pages back.

And the only weight I see mentioned anywhere in the specs of the book is 1.6 pounds and it doesn't say tablet only or there isn't a second weight listed for the base so does that actuallyt mean combined?

So it's about $500 premium over a similar specced ultrabook. A little steep...but hey, people have been talking about GPU keyboard docks since forever. This unicorn is real. :)

Really glad I waited, because they delivered. Good job Microsoft. Finally a company that actually understands the need for a dedicated gpu, solid processor, and pen input.
