Quite cricket-y around here... and, from the ad impression stats, everywhere in the SB world. That's ok. We now have three in our research group, so I have company to enjoy it with =P

So this came in handier than I expected. Once I learned that it was only the dock connector that interfered with the port access I figured it would be a non-issue for me (2 mDP is all I need); however, it turns out that the dock doesn't work with my active mDP 1.2 to HDMI 2.0 adapter. Further this adapter is one of the few (if not the only) adapters on the market which can actually push 4k@60Hz with full 4:4:4 chroma (for the details on what that means, catch up here).

    So...

This is still a little irksome. It would be far better if the Surface Dock simply worked. I like to dock directly to the clipboard for example which I can't do with this solution. And of course I need now to plug in 2 cables rather than one, but at least this is workable. Thanks for the idea @sonichedgehog360.

I'm using this one on my dock to drive a 40" 4K 60Hz Monitor:

    Works well....

Thanks but... that is the same one I have =P

It works for me, but not through the dock. Maybe it is monitor dependent (mine is a Samsung 40" UHD TV, UN40JU6500)? There are amazon reviews from others having the same problem with the adapter through the Surface Dock.

I found some more info in case anyone else is interested in this. The maker of the adapter is aware of the problem. Apparently the Surface Dock interrupts some DP signal necessary for it to work properly with (at least some) 4K displays.

@Mesosphere - and I thought I was riding on the sharp edge of the blade - that is one heck of a setup - did you use to launch shuttle mission from your desk?

What model monitor is the ultrawide on the right?

Haha, I brought the monitors with the idea we would have the same working space as our last launch. This time they were simultaneously integrating 6 payloads instead of 2, so it was very cramped.

    The monitor is LG 34UM95.
