I also feel this way and always been somewhat frustrated with the widescreen tablets offer.
Heck even laptops feels like the top part of the screen has been chopped off.
A 4:3 format makes much more sense on this size, It's great that new devices are adopting this format.

With large screens wide formats are really cool though.

I really dig the book but the battery life of the clipboard section is kind of low.

Urban Armor gear is currently developing a hard shell case for the book.

So... Picked up my SB today and it appeared to be unopened, but there's no setup and a user "Other user" already exists and is password locked down. Either best buy is shady, which is def possible, or the unit was tested in factory and never reset. Anyone run into this?

Mine did that. I believe it is because it ran out of battery. Do you receive it with empty battery? Mine does.

How do I recover from it? I use power-volume reset to go to BIOS. Restart the device in BIOS. After restart, it will go to Windows setting screen.

I've never run into that...but if definitely sounds shady......it sounds almost like they gave you a Demo/Floor Unit or returned/Refurbed Unit and they're trying to pass it off as new.....which in my book is unacceptable for a new purchase. I would bring it back and either ask for a new one that is actually new, or at least a discount of sorts.

It's happened to quite a few ppl with Surface Books-- our unit too (which was not from Best Buy). Hold down power and up volume to get past the problem. It seems some units didn't get reset after running QA tests at Microsoft's factory.

NOT the first time I've heard of someone buying a previously purchased AND setup laptop from Best Buy. Sad to say it's entirely possible, but it's also possible it just wasn't reset by Microsoft after QA.

Is there anyway I could be sure. Seems like it might just be a QA thing, but I'd want to know for sure when spending this much

It did have no battery at start. Seems odd that doing so would create a user tho. It is from the 43 stock, and was very tightly wrapped in its plastic wrap.
