It's a long way from the HP Slate 500. Great price.

Truth be told, I don't think my HP 2730 was as powerful and functional as the Surface 3

Yes , the slate 500 days.
I wish HP had built on that model with the current core M processors.

I would hope so. Still have mine, even though the battery will not hold a charge, in fact I installed Windows 10 on it before upgrading my sp2, just see if I liked it enough to make the change.

    Hi friends,

I hope everyone is doing well. I am interested in buying a Surface 3 for a dear friend of mine, who is a professor in a university in the UK.

I am located in the USA and am considering buying the Surface 3 over Thanksgiving from a retail store (not a phone carrier store).

Can you please tell me if the Surface 3 with LTE is locked/restricted to a particular US carrier? Or can I use the SIM card from another carrier when traveling overseas, assuming it is the same band, frequency, etc.?

Also, does it run MS Office apps such as powerpoint and word? And can it read PDF files?

    Thank you and happy Thanksgiving,
    desidude

I think the version ms store is selling is unlocked version.
Only mobile network operator like AT&T is selling locked device.
You should check and ask before buying.

Yes it runs any kind of traditional exe app like office or reading PDF.
It's running full Windows OS as every other PC do.

In addition, you should consult with a shipper who handles overseas shipments. There are issues of customs delays and possible VAT that may result in costs to your friend unless you make the proper arrangements. The last time I did something like this, I bought the device (an e-reader) through Amazon and had them handle all the overseas arrangements. The device arrived in days and without any fees or charges.

Conversely, I've shipped packages by myself through UPS (for example) that spent literally weeks in customs. So how you handle these arrangements can make a huge difference, as can the destination country...

    Good luck.
