Well I thought I would give it a try. Here is a poll.
I wonder if there is a difference between headphones & speakers with an external power source (& ground?). Might be worth editing your poll to include people like me who fail to own headphones.
No static at all, mind you i was using Vista 64bit will try XP and see if its an OP problem.
Queastion to all of you with the static problem; Why haven't you notified Asus about the problem on their forum? So far only one user, saranya, has loged the problem on their forum.

Just bought an R1F. I have static in both headphones and speakers, alas.

I finally tested with some borrowed headphones, and no static. The headphones were Sony brand, jogging style (basically earbuds with a lot of plastic). Sorry that I don't have anything else to test with.
