I know HP and Lenovo are big on BIOS whitelisting. I once got an HP Wifi card and had tremendous fun with rewriting it's device ID in the firmware...

So if you get a Wifi card for your slate you should check if there is a special HP version, usually just having a different device ID for no technical reason. If there is, there's a slight chance it will just work and if not you're likely in for a BIOS mod :-/

I think you are right . Last week I updated and installed new wifi cards (Intel 5300) in both my gateway CX210X and toshiba M400 convertibles and had no problems.
The increase in speed in both of them is remarkable.
I don't know how to do a BIOS mod.
I might look for a HP version.
I do want to thank you all for helping me out.

Glad to see you got it working. Are your loading speeds a lot faster?

I am not sure yet....I have not had enough time to play with it.
It did seem a little faster with downloading a youtube HD video and playing it so well. The touch response certainly seems much faster.
I should know more by this weekend hopefully.

Another benefit of the new ssd drive is that the tablet appears to be more stable coming out of sleep, I disabled hibernation. Before the swap, if I let my slate sleep too long, coming out of sleep I would get the dos screen, indicating that windows did not shut down properly and give the re-start options, since the change, I no longer get that screen, no matter how long I let my slate sleep.

Here are my WEI #'s with the new Netlist SSD 128 GB:
    Processor 2.9
    Memory (RAM) 4.5
    Graphics 4.5
    Gaming Graphics 3.5
    Primary hard disk 6.2
They are the same @ 1.86 GHz and @ overclocked 2.15 GHz.
I have turned off the overclocking for now to get a feel of the slate for a few days.

2d: I have been using the slate without overclocking for the past few days.
I have to say you are absolutely correct that to get the full benefit of the new faster 128 gb ssd one also has to keep the slate overclocked. It is fine with the base clock speed but with overclocking ( @ about 2.15 GHz) the performance boost is awesome.
However, it seems to go back to the base cpu speed of 1.86GHz when it wakes up from sleep....I have tried the methods as outlined in the overclocking thread..but it does not seem to solve this problem.

    lol, an ESD wrist strap!
I haven't actually used one of those in forever, for better or worse!

You do have it relatively easy with the Slate 500, its not nearly the PITA the Motion F5 is, see here Motion F5 (U7500 update) - a set on Flickr at least the F5 can be upgraded somewhat easier (slotted ram compared to soldered ram)

When I have more time I'll add some more pics...lol.
Yes, I had to make sure I got rid of the static as much as possible since the ssd has no casing at all!
I had bought the mat and strap as a set from Radio shack a long time ago...still very useful...lol.
How do I get these pics to show in here rather than just links?
