Well besides the fact my Thinkpad uses harder to find(?) AAAA batteries I don't see it being that much of a con for me.

I'm kind of late to this party, but I saw that piece of engadget as well and was doing backflips. I mean this basically nails it for me, with one small problem if it's not an active digitizer.

First thing is the size! FINALLY a 11" tablet other than the Samsung series 7 slate, and the even better (because it's smaller) Microsoft Surface Pro! FINALLY! The fact that is comes with a keyboard as well is just icing on the cake. It's got guts, and although Sony does like to load their laptops and PCs with a ton of junk software their build quality is good and they are usually pretty feature packed.

I'm seriously going to be keeping an eye out for this. I too cannot wait for all of these upcoming tablets to finally come out.

The Vaio I have didn't have much crap aware aside from a few Sony software(some actually pretty useful), same goes for my Mother's Vaio. I am pretty sure Sony has a fresh start option.

Vaios don't have nearly as much crapware as they did four years ago.

But don't ever spend $50 on the Fresh Start option (it's "free," but only if you buy a $50 upgrade from Win 7 Home Premium to Win 7 Pro). It's a waste. I did, and I was surprised to still have a decent amount of crapware on my system, from Arcsoft "magic effects" software for the webcam to (I think) Bing Bar. Basically, as far as I can tell, the only three programs removed by the Frest Start option are:

    (1) Vaio Gate (the OSX-style dock)
    (2) Picture Motion Browser (inferior to both Picasa and Windows Live Photo Gallery), and
    (3) 30-day free trial of antivirus.

It's easy enough to uninstall those three programs on your own. So save the $50 and don't ever buy a Fresh Start Vaio.

Fresh start was free on my mother's Vaio F.

Re. the stylus, I just received this info from Sony:

"The VAIO Duo Digitizer Stylus is manufactured by N-trig, which we
believe provides the most accurate and precise writing.

It supports up to 256 points of pressure."

    Not for me, then... :(

    Gotta love marketing teams! :)

Well, perhaps that's the new N-trig 4 technology, which might be much better than the previous N-trig 3.5 tech. And that would mean good enough for casual users. There's a guy that wrote a brief review of his Q552 on the Fujitsu forum and he praised its inking experience. I wonder which version of the N-trig hardware the Q552 uses.

It's definitely not using their old nib/tip so it must be N-Trig 4.

I though v4 was sans battery, while this looks to have it?

Ah hahahahahahahahahaha. Sorry for the outburst but I've earned it. My current N-Trig pen requires that I pull it apart every few days, clean the contacts and put it back together before it will work properly. Never again.
