So, im really pissed off at the moment - got my TF810c back from Asus support a few days ago, had it in for the screen constantly detecting two input, the tech guys said they recalibrated the screen.

And today ive got this issue where anything opened on my desktop still show when i got into 'metro' - as if the metro environment is transparent. Happens when i restart/shutdown - still see the last windows i opened in desktop - love the machine but i am so close to just smashing it on the wall

I have this too, but only a little bit.
It's most noticeable when I see icons pinned to my taskbar appear on my keyboard.
I noticed this after using LiveUpdate, but there might be another cause.

So this is my first post here - after following this forum for the last 2 month I've finally decided to buy a TF810c - right now it's installing windows updates - first impression is great. We'll see how many of the common issues with the tablet affect my device.

Back to your problem, Raztamoket: a quick Google search indicates that this is not a driver issue but somehow the settings of your Metro surface got changed. THIS WEBSITE talks about the issue. However, I'm not sure whether it also gives a solution. You should have a look at it though.

but it goes beyond that, eg when i restart the tablet i get the boot screen + anything that was display before i shutdown

Its not about being transparent, its about the screen not refreshing

    Definitely nowhere near that extent!
This is a very difficult problem to fix - terms to search on Google are too general and impossible to specify.
Have you tried refreshing or resetting your installation?
Hopefully that resolves it for you!

yup did all the reset, refresh, latest drivers - seems to be pointing at a hardware issue

Just noticed this is starting on mine, the taskbar ghosts so you can see it on the logon and even the black Asus start screen when you re-boot. Bit like the TV icons used to burn into the screen on early flat screens :(
