It just occured to me that the max RAM the ASUS R1F can take is 2Gb while most other new tablets support up to 4GB. 2GB is more than enough for now but of course, but unlike most people here, I won't be getting a new laptop every 2 years so upgrade options are important.

Is anyone familiar with how this RAM limitation is established? Is there any way around the 2Gb limit? I've read from other forums that some people have successfully instead RAM beyond the stated limit. Would it be possible on the R1F?

The 945 chipset is limited to 4gb - so any core duo or core 2 duo notebook or tablet can take 4gb. The thing is, Asus doesn't boost what it can't prove. Right now there aren't enough 2gb modules (and nothing mainstream) that they could test and guarentee it'll work. Also, there's a good chance that all notebooks would need a bios update to run 4gb because there's nothing out there to test the current bios on.

So, yes, the R1f should be able to take 4gb down the road with no problem.
