I upgraded my hard drive to a 60GB 7200rpm and I already noticed a difference. Power seems to be running about the same but I only really take notes when in battery mode. All I can suggest is that you do get another stick of 1GB ram (if you have the US version and turn down the virtual memory if you don't need it to limit the amount your hard drive is used.

Because the Intel 945GM chipset in the R1F limits the usable memory to 3GB even if you have 4GB.

BLEH - In my last post I mean 2GB of RAM, not the 3.

Anyways - so the limit of really 3GB of RAM. So later this year when the new chip set comes out, does anyone know if the R1F will be upgraded, or could guess a time frame? cheers :)
