    Hi All -

I just got a new r15 tablet and the DVD drive is really loud and vibrates the whole tablet while reading DVDs to install software. Is this normal for the r15? None of my other laptops (including the Toshiba M55) are this loud or vibrate.

Do I have a bad drive?

    Thanks -

    Stephany

Stephany, this is typical of the newer and faster drives, especially when installing software, trying to copy files at top speed. To put your mind at ease, pop in a DVD (movie) and see that it calms down during playback. The drive should mellow for you during this type of use.

    Thanks Barry & Poetdante -

It is the strangest thing - The problem went away when I used non-Microsoft product disks! While I was installing Quicken, Quickbooks and TurboTax, the drive noise was consistent with my other laptops. But while running the disks from Microsoft Office and Visio, the dvd drive was really, really loud and the whole computer vibrated. All I can figure is that the hole in the disks must be offcenter a little so the disk is unbalanced?

Weird deal, but I am very relieved that the drive seems to be fine otherwise.

All the best to both of you,

    Stephany

There is an application that comes pre-installed on the R15 to quiet the DVD drive.

Perhaps your R15 gets overexcited over MSFT software lol
