I picked up an i5 230t recently. It's surprisingly great for a 5 year old machine.

I'm wondering if anyone knows whether or not the motherboard on the x230 (non tablet) is compatible with the x230t. There's a local seller who has an affordable i7 board from a non-tablet x230, and the process of switching the motherboards out on these are easy enough.

@Bloom it's not compatible. i7 runs hotter, you may experience thermal throttling with it unlike i5. Due to throttling, i7 in compact devices may actually perform worse than i5 under continuos loads.

That's super helpful to know. I wasn't aware of the throttling issue.

    Thanks, @Starlight5 !
