So, Microsoft have stopped development of Office UWP apps.

It's a shame OneNote was diverged from the Office suite. I'm guessing the UWP version will continue (and therefore be the only major programme that Microsoft develop using UWP....).

So, all in all, an utter mess. It would have been nice to have both the x86 and UWP versions, or at least have had feature parity between them. Hell, just an option to choose between the UIs (although I still think that x86 OneNote in touch mode was better than the UWP sliding UI.

Maybe we need to lead an assault on Microsoft to reinstate OneNote 2016...

Are you suggesting that Microsoft is the creation of a certain Dr. Frankenstein?
Or is my cinematic knowledge sub-par?

Talk about a behemoth without any clear direction. Are they or are they not all in with the UWP thing? Stopping development of office apps to focus on legacy version, and at the same time stopping OneNote and Skype legacy versions to focus on UWP ones. They must thrive in confusion.
I guess this is something MS has in common with the Trump Whitehouse (no offense to our American friends).

Ohh, our American friends are living through that on a daily basis. I think they are fully aware that the rest of the world is aware of their predicament. But to get back to topic, yes Microsoft's priorities are certainly difficult to understand. Almost like they were being led by some Indian guru or something.

Being a die hard OneNote user, this has me rethinking the platform. If UWP is going the way of the buffalo, then I don't have a lot of hope for continued support of OneNote. OneNote 2016 being the last version of desktop OneNote, I don't have much hope for OneNote's future. But there's nothing quite like it!

This is pure speculation, but it's been my guess for a while that the code for OneNote desktop is at this point such a hacked together mess that they can't even figure out how to extend it going forward.

I mean considering the way they started with an offline focus and then over the years updated to this sync model... and then how they implemented a brand new sync system in all other versions but desktop, and the fact that they've basically chosen to start from scratch, etc.

I mean, it's the only explanation I can come up with that makes sense.
