Most of these are quite old, relatively speaking. I have been using all of the latest drivers since they came out. You likely have most of the latest installed too because many of them have not been updated since the slate was released.

I had my hopes up there for a moment

I was mislead by the thread's title too. Maybe it should be changed.

Sorry. I'm waiting for a used Slate 500 to arrive and have been exploring.

I have my used Slate 500 now. Should I apply all these updates? Could they overwrite something newer? HP should have the newest software on their site, as compared to what shipped in Slates.

If you bought your unit used, check before updating. The slate comes with support assistant software which works reasonably well. I would go there and see what updates are on your unit. You may find that you are current. I would enable all W7 updates as well.

I didn't have the latest firmware, so I installed that. Given the date of that update, I installed others, including all of the updated drivers.

auto-rotate stopped working. I can't find anything directly about this, although the Quick Launch software might be implicated. I can't find any toggle control over auto rotation.

auto-rotate started working again. I've read of this happening.
