NEWS: Fujitsu Experiences Highest Year-on-Year Growth for Portables

Sunnyvale, Calif. Mar. 10, 2004 Fujitsu Computer Systems today announced it achieved record-breaking growth in 2003 by increasing its year-on-year number of U.S. portable shipments by 53 percent from 2002. Fujitsu attributes its success to the third and fourth quarters of 2003 in which the company experienced its highest jump in year-on-year growth for U.S. portable shipments.

Supported by a report from International Data Corporation (IDC), Fujitsu improved its year-on-year growth of U.S. portable shipments by 73 percent in the third quarter of 2003 and 35 percent in the fourth quarter. This increase enabled Fujitsu to maintain its position as a Top 10 vendor and move into ninth position in overall portable units shipped in 2003.

Fujitsu credits its retail strategy and the addition of several innovative and consumer friendly notebook computers, such as the LifeBookR P5000 and LifeBook N5000 notebooks, for its substantial growth in 2003. Value-added features like DVD-RW drives, bigger and brighter displays, dual-band wireless LANs and competitive pricing make the Fujitsu notebook computer attractive to consumers. Industry influencers also point to the falling system prices and the increasing popularity of wireless technology in the home and workplace.

"In 2003, Fujitsu made significant changes to its North American operations to better position the company for future growth," said Dennis Mull, senior vice president of sales and marketing, Fujitsu Computer Systems. "In this short amount of time, Fujitsu achieved several company milestones. The accomplishments of 2003 highlight the overall strengths of the company and point to the spectrum of opportunities awaiting the company in 2004."
