Using a network to install programs isn't a problem. That's how I installed all my Office software. As long as cd drives are networked around me I don't worry.

    Barry,
I did check out the ST5000 review. It was very informative. Thank you!

    Dante,
At this point in my decision, pricing is a factor and it appears that i can pick up a new, in the box ST5020D for about 1,200. Add another 170- 250 for an optical drive and I'm up and running for a bit over 1/2 the price of a similarly equipped Motion!

Thank you everyone for your input!

    Thanks clchappe,
    - Do I set up a peer to peer network and share the drives - and change the install destination path to the slate's hd?

There are a couple computers in my network, all under the same workgroup, and I share one of the CD drives on those computers. Once you share the drive under Windows it shows up as a Network Place on your computer. To install I place the CD in the shared drive, navigate to it on my computer and double-click the setup program. Pretty straight forward and I've had no trouble installing multiple programs. From my experience, the install program automatically installs the program to the C:/Program Files folder.

Well, that sounds like a much easier solution than mounting cd images :p I never thought of reading the CD off of another computer.
