Wacoms just released a new Tablet PC Driver today. Someone's already confirmed in the Microsoft Forum that the driver does indeed work on the Surface Pro. Anyone care to try it on the Thinkpad Tablet 2 or Thinkpad Helix?

TABLET PC – Enhanced Tablet Driver 7.1.1-12

Expand the capabilities of your tablet computer with the enhanced tablet driver for systems that use Wacom Feel IT® technology! Installing this driver will provide many advanced pressure-sensitive features that Wacom pen tablet users have come to enjoy. The driver supports advanced features such as pressure-sensitivity in graphics applications such as Adobe Photoshop and Corel Painter. It also allows you to adjust the pen tip pressure sensitivity and to program the side switch of the pen for a wide range of alternative settings and functions.

This driver should be installed on tablets that have Wacom feel IT technologies or Wacom Pen based technologies. This driver will also support older Penabled Tablet PCs running Windows 7, Windows Vista, and Windows XP Tablet Edition.

    Driver installation

Click on the Download link and save the file to your computer. If you are upgrading from a previous Wacom driver version, uninstall that driver first for best results. Restart the system prior to installing the new driver.
Double-click on the downloaded file to launch the installer and follow the prompts.
If prompted, restart the system by clicking the Ok button.

Sorry guys I cant get this to work. Keep in mind I am not an artist type but when I install this driver, it gives me the message.... "There is no supported tablet on this system"... which sounds like a weird error message to me. I did verify that the pen actually works and shows up in the drivers and setting section, and I can calibrate the pen. I also downloaded the trial version of corel paint 12 and there is no pressure sensitivity there, thought he pen works. Not sure what else to try at this point.

No. You did good; you tested it out and it does not work.

My guess - and it is strictly a guess - is that Wacom's new chip has the vendor 'burnt' into it (Microsoft, Lenovo, Samsung etc.) and Wacom wants software licensing fees or some such. As Wintab grew to be more elaborate (I think it includes touch functionality now, like rotation in Painter 12) I bet Wacom grew to feel they were deserving of having their software development costs offset by someone other than just themselves.

    http://forum.tabletpcreview.com/microsoft/55348-cant-install-wacom-tablet-pc-drivers-18.html

Jcase says he had to try two install attempts to get the new driver to work on his MS Surface. Sounds like it is not a straight-forward install process for this driver.

Sounds like good news to me. Happy to be wrong thinking that the driver was only for Microsoft.

The Helix is one of the products I was looking at seriously and I have a Corel Painter 12 disc just itching to be installed somewhere.

It was the dealbreaker for me and my wife. No pressure sensitivity in Photoshop=no deal.

Well, it installed for me, and was looking good.

But then I discovered that, although Touch was working, right and left swipes (using Touch) from the edges weren't - they only worked with the pen. Since these are crucial UI elements for me, the new Wacom driver has been uninstalled.

I've still not got the touch behaviour restored, so I need to do some more digging...
