I don't get why the reviews say different?

the best macbook vs the envy 15

    mac \ envy
    core 2 vs core i7
nvidia 9600 gt vs ati 4830
    $2,500 vs $1,800

    source: apple.com and notebookreview.com

in my view the aesthetics and performance might bring some people from mac back to pc.

that or I'm looking at this from a computer nerds perspective and not the average rich consumers perspective,

    guess so

when I was putting petrol in my car (there are monitors that play news and ads above the pump) I saw a quick report saying Steve Balmer doesn't expect windows 7 to sell more pc's than vista

guess your average consumer doesn't care about specs and such, all they want is something to go onto the internet with

why isn't everyone a tech geek?

Hate to say it, but all the hp stuff I have sucks, including several computers. I have two Toshibas that are rock solid though. They have the supposed crap cpus and video but they perform better than my tx2500.

Doesn't the 'z' just mean that it is a customisable version of the tx2?

yes the z normally denotes the customizable version found on hp.com. The retail models don't have z in their names. It's the same machine, not the model we've been anxiously awaiting...i'd expect we'll hear something around CES.
