    Hi-

I'm look to purchase the C-142XL for college. I'm trying to get a sales rep to lower the price, but I've had no luck. Here is my most recent conversation with a sales rep:

    Any ideas or tips?

Make sure the rep(s) have you contact information. It's very likely that they'll contact you in the near future with a better deal. Patience favors the buyer, impatience favors the seller.

Its also usually better to try to get a deal by phone... Just a thought.

you aren't going to get the XL for the HP price. not going to happen. If $600 is the way you want to spend, drop GW and take the HP.

I doubt that they will go below $1000 for an 141 XL

I think you meant the 142 XL because last weekend they had the 141 for 699 and the 142 for 1099.

Actually, just checked and the 142 XL is still 1099

    ThatDude,
hi, I'll refer you to the sales rep that I used.

Firstly, your epectations are set too high. I do not think Gateway will priceMATCH the HPTx2000...it is way too low. You can use it however as a bargaining tool to get the price to be lowered, perhaps a free bag, and perhaps free shipping. There is probably no way you are going to pay the same price as the HP. Secondly, I havent seen the price for the 142XL that low before on the Gateway site. They may have already put as much of a discount on it that they can handle. The rest of the discounting is the Sales rep cutting into their own income. Be considerate of them. If you can only afford the HP now I would start saving now so you can afford the more expensive and better performing TPC.

I think the price is pretty damn good already, the gateway definitely is the most bang for the buck...I paid 1300 or so for mine, already you are paying less :)

Seriously, I don't know who would buy a 141 right now with the 142 being only $100 more.

I thought the only difference between the two was SP1. That's definitely not worth $100.

The 141 that is available is the X model, which has the Intel GMA X3100 Graphics vs th ATI Mobility™ Radeon X2300 HD 256MB. Plus the 142XL has a faster CPU with more cache, 1GB more memory, larger HD, faster BUS speed. Definitely worth $100 more.
